Fellow models, if you weren’t aware of that, I would like to let you know that the latest trend in our field is no Photoshop! Who says so? Haters! Seriously, lately I’ve been seeing more and more comments of disapproval to obviously photoshopped model photos. When I say obviously edited, I mean the special backgrounds, surreal effects and filters that make an ordinary photo look arty or just not so ordinary. What really caught my eye and got me thinking about all of this was a rather long debate on a seriously- big- Goth- model- name’s page, where people were “shocked” that an old castle door was inserted as a background for a studio shot. The photo was perfect, and she looked amazing, but the blurred door was the problem, really? And I don’t know which is worse, the people who are following a model’s work and trying to find and point out every real and imaginary flaw alike, or other models that take pride in unedited photos.
Personally, I think that unedited photos are just unprofessional. Everybody in the whole world has eye bags, a tiny scar somewhere on their skin, a freckle, an uneven eyebrow, imperfect lips or chin, but is it really something we should brag about? Just go back to what your job as a model is- to present the outfit, or accessories, and everything combined, in the best way possible. When somebody sees a photo of you, they should go “Oh wow, I want to wear/buy that so I can look as good.” That is the whole point! I am not telling you to feel ashamed of what you look like, and self conscious about your face or body features. I am just telling you that editing your photos in order to make you, and the whole photo with you look perfect, is more than ok! Only idiots will think that that is what you look like when you wake up in the morning. We are as much artists as designers, photographers and make-up artist are, and you won’t see a designer leaving a hanging tread or your make-up girl being satisfied until your whole face is flawless. That is because we all make that illusion of perfection in our own way. You shouldn’t feel like you are deceiving anyone. If you still really want to show your fans what is the natural, unedited you, there is always room for a special photo album or gallery, but please, don’t feel ashamed for having only fully edited photos, or obliged to show your morning face without any makeup or filter.
I honestly don’t understand those who think that they made an astonishing achievement by posting #nomakeup #nofilter #noedit photos, and act like they are somehow better than everyone else just because of that. I photoshop my nose, in every single photo I make, because I just like it better that way, and there is nothing wrong with that. So relax, and make your hair longer, your waist thinner, your eyes brighter and enjoy your beautiful photos. And don’t worry, everybody does it, even the “no edit whatsoever” people.

True words! Especially because lots of people that complain about "too much Photoshop" use Instagram filters and apps that give you a smaller nose or flawless skin for their own photos. So where is the difference between this behaviour and the result of a photoshoot to which some additional atmosphere was added by editing it with Photoshop?
Amen! Speaking both as a model and photographer I don't value a photo if it's not perfect and by perfect I mean photoshoped. However I don't respect people that overdo it and change their complete appearance :)
Gamer in me is whispering that after all sequences that I saw in games and imaginary worlds visited Im aware that beautified photos are esential.
My other part of personality was allways handling analog cameras and devices. I would allways try to capture raw picture in most purest form.
Photoshop is not something that was created not to be used. I also use photoshop in all of my photos and I approve of it - just in the right amounts, of course, not to lie about major pieces of the project.
I can consider myself as PhotoS mentor. Related to that I cannot stand by you on this one, no matter how you are hot, naturala and prepared.
Few minths ago i let some great deed gone. I was shooting energetic persons (both male aand female) that have more passionatelly direct pose, then many I have seen.
Using equipment ws somehow more easier with crowd without make up, tiredsome prepartion and fragile shootings.
Not to mention the aabsence of after job becouse we did -proccessed - delivered in faster pace than with models with ton of pre or post work. Not kidding
As a graphic designer, I agree with every word you wrote. I think that behind that :girl empowering" trend of no editing and/or no makeup is just more pressure to be perfect , to look fabulous when you wake up and all the misleading (pardon me) bullshit. That is not empowering at all, that is just more stomping on girls worth... And from the marketing point of view... Commercial is there to sell illusion of perfection, and along with that illusion, the product itself..
